Welcome to Gable’s first book blog! Hopefully, we will use this blog to talk about great books that we’ve read and that we recommend to others.

Let’s start with the 2008-2009 SC Junior Book Award books. If anyone has read one of the books yet, please post a review.  Feel free to post a comment about anything else that you are reading, too!

Cracker!: the Best Dog in Vietnam by Cynthia Kadohata

If you like dog stories, this is a good one for you! Read about Cracker, one of the Army’s bomb-sniffing dogs used during the Vietnam War. You become very attached to Cracker and wish so much that Cracker will come home and be reunited with his owner. Read and find out what happens!

I hope you’ve been reading the new list of 2008-09 SCJBA books. There are some great books on the list! Some favorites that I’ve heard students talking about are: Blood on the River, Cracker!, The Mailbox, Black Duck, Bella at Midnight…just to mention a few.

Heat is another one you might want to read.

Heat

by Mike Lupica

Cuban born twelve-year-old Michael Arroyo is a pitching sensation.  When a jealous coach endangers Michael’s participation in the Little League district finals, Michael has no parent to help prove that he is eligible for the team, no birth certificate from Cuba, and now he is running out of hope.

Let me know what you like!

What great books did you read over the summer? I’d love to know! I’ve been reading my normal murder mysteries…I always seem to go back to my favorite authors during the summer. I have been reading some of the new 2008-09 SC Jr. Book Award books, too. I just finished Cracker!: the Best Dog in Vietnam. Great book! If you like a good dog story, you’ll enjoy this one. I just started Breaking Dawn for all you Twilight fans. It went on sale this past weekend. I need to find out what happens with Bella and Edward!

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone soon…

Lightning Thief is the school and state winner!

Uncategorized No Comments »

We had 133 students qualify to vote in our SCJBA Voting Party in February! Thank you to 6th and 7th grade ELA teachers for helping us attain this large number! Lightning Thief won with 29 votes and Soul Surfer came in second with 14 votes.

I attended our state school library conference and Lightning Thief was announced as the state winner for the Junior Book division! I guess Gable “speaks” for the whole state!

Thank you to everyone for reading and voting and I have next year’s list available here and you can pick up a printed copy in the library.

Please keep reading this year’s list, if you haven’t read them yet. It was a great list of books!

I’m interested in what else you’re reading now. Post a comment and tell me.
